"Rio, the most well-known, unknown song of the 1970s. Produced and performed by Michael Nesmith... Now is the time for everyone to discover Michael Nesmith's Rio."
-Pacific Arts advertisement, 1979

Rio changed music history. In 1976, it introduced the music video, was a #1 hit in Australia, and made the charts in countries around the globe! Nez began production of PopClips two years later, a 30-minute music video program on Nickelodeon that expanded into a 24-hour network and became MTV.

In February, 1979 -- a few months before PopClips first aired -- Pacific Arts rereleased Rio. Based on our archives, it's unclear whether the two events are connected. Marketing surrounding the rerelease included showings of the music video on HBO and a contest to win a trip for two to Rio through a radio station in New York! A 14-year-old girl won and gave the prize to her parents as a 25th Wedding Anniversary present.

Intact in its original picture sleeve, the Rio 45 (PAC45-104) is straight from 1979. Nez has signed the sleeve's cover in gold ink to match the gold Pacific Arts seal on the accompanying numbered certificate of authenticity. Like The Prison LP, the Rio 45 is a chance to own an artifact of modern music history.

The first 10 orders will also receive a Rio sticker from 1979!

Only 175 are available. Sorry, no personalizations. Orders will begin to ship in late May.
